Collection History: Donated by Fred B. R. Hellems in 1930
A memorial issue from around 318, struck by Constantine I. In 306, the Roman People elevated Maxentius as Augustus. Maxentius then recalled his father Maximian from retirement for assistance. However, he was eventually overcome by the forces of Constantine and committed suicide in 310. This coin was minted after Constantine ousted and killed Maxentius, when Maximian's image was reintroduced, and he was deified. Amy Clausen 2013.
