The double unguentarium occurs almost exclusively in Syria and Palestine in the fourth and fifth centuries C.E. A fourth century example of this type of handle comes from a tomb at Beit Fajjar in Palestine (Husseini, pl. 85, no. 3). Other examples are Ayalon, fig. 5, Stern (2001), no. 179, and Whitehouse (2001), no. 748. More elaborate versions are numerous, including even quadruple unguentaria.
