Quintillus was the brother of Claudius Gothicus. His reign was so short and filled with such confusion that it is difficult to determine many facts at all about the man or his rule. Some sources claim he was emperor for a little as 17 days, others 177 (i.e., about six months). The glorious accomplishments of his brother must have overshadowed him regardless. Aurelian, who accompanied Claudius Gothicus and his troops to Pannonia to ward of a Vandal invasion, was declared emperor upon Claudius’ death, and Quintillus either committed suicide or was killed by Aurelian’s forces.
