Maki Haku, the artistic name of Maejima Tadaaki, was a sōsaku hanga artist known for his semi-abstract Chinese calligraphic characters. The sōsaku hanga or “creative prints” movement developed in early twentieth-century Japan in response to the established ukiyo-e printing tradition.
